Daniel Patrick Hogan

Dan was born on January 23,1962 in Ellinwood, Kansas, the third child of Leroy and Allene Hogan. He grew up in Holyrood, KS on the Hogan family farm, attending school and church in the community. He graduated from Quivira Heights High School at Bushton KS, in May, 1980.

After graduation from high school, Dan attended college at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in 1985.

While at university, Dan was involved in K-Laires Square Dancing club, where he met Toni Anderson at a dance one evening. With much pride and joy, and that ornery twinkle in his eyes, Dan loved to tell the story of the evening he met his future bride.  He walked right over  and sat directly between her and another young man who was attempting to earn her attention. Dan and Toni were married in Norton, KS on May 24, 1986.  God blessed their holy union with three beautiful children: Collin, Linda (Lindi), and Sean Hogan.

Dan attained his Professional Engineer Certification, and his career spanned over three decades, as he became a knowledgeable and sought out expert in the oil and gas industry. He was employed by the following companies: Factory Mutual, St. Louis MO, Farmland Industries, Coffeyville, KS, Conoco Inc, Ponca City, OK, ConocoPhillips, Bartlesville, OK, and Phillips 66, Bartlesville, OK.

Dan retired from formal employment in 2020. He partnered with other oil and gas experts in the industry on business ventures, and then established his own company, Post Rock Consulting. At the time of his passing, Dan was preparing to travel to Indonesia on a consulting venture with an Indonesian company.

Dan and Toni lived in, and were very involved in the communities of Coffeyville, KS, Ponca City, OK, and Bartlesville, OK. They planned to retire in Holyrood, KS, on the Hogan family farm where Dan grew up. Toward that effort; Dan had begun to build their dream home and a large shop to house his business and his big, orange tractor, in which he would take privileged grandchildren and the children of family and friends for tours around the farm.

A man of many talents and interests, Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, good cigars, excellent scotch, and watching and photographing sunsets with Toni. He got a kick out of making up and assigning silly nicknames to loved ones and intentionally mispronouncing words.  Dan was a man with a gruff exterior and a soft-hearted, life loving interior.

Dan joined the Knights of Columbus as a young man and his association with this fraternal organization brought some of his greatest accomplishments and friendships, as well as relationships with brother Knights across the nation and even the world. He held various leadership positions including Grand Knight, District Deputy, worked up the State Officer Chairs to become Oklahoma State Deputy, and 4th Degree Vice Supreme Master of Our Lady of Guadalupe Province covering Oklahoma and Texas. He was particularly proud of his involvement with the Knights of Columbus Ultrasound Program, which provides funding to purchase and install ultrasound machines in Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers. He considered it an honor to work toward saving the lives of innocent babies.

During his tenure with the Knights of Columbus, Dan was involved in various fundraising efforts; including apple pie production and sales, which was initiated with a brother Knight in Ponca City. This effort continues today in the communities of Ponca City and Bartlesville. He was also very involved in countless Lenten fish fries and pancake breakfasts. Dan also served as a member of the Board of Directors and on various committees for the Center For Family Love, which offers residential and vocational services for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Dan’s most recent and current position was Chairman of the Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities for Oklahoma State Council.  He was the epitome of “where there's a need, fill it” and inspired many to do the same.

Scouting was also a big part of Dan’s life.  Dan’s scout leadership included Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout Troops in both Ponca City and Bartlesville. To his credit and with his encouragement and involvement; both of his sons earned the rank of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow. Dan was involved as an adult leader on five treks to Philmont and countless other outings and projects.

Dan involved himself with all three of his children’s sports endeavors through coaching and parent support. He prided himself in never missing an opportunity to attend games. A die-hard Kansas State Wildcat fan; his blood ran purple and he followed Wildcat Football religiously, enjoying light-hearted banter with the Cowboy and Sooner fans across the state.

At various times in his life, Dan was a member of the Catholic Churches of St. Mary in Holyrood, KS, Holy Name in Coffeyville, KS, St. Mary in Ponca City, OK, and St. John in Bartlesville, OK. He shared his leadership skills as a member of the Parish Council in both Ponca City and Bartlesville.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Allene Hogan and Leroy Hogan; and he considered it an honor and privilege to help care for his father in his final days.  He was also preceded in death by his beloved brother-in-law, Scott Anderson.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Toni Hogan of the family home in Bartlesville, OK; his children, Collin and wife Jeahn, and grandson Mark, granddaughter Jeahrin of Okinawa, Japan; Linda (Lindi) of the family home in Bartlesville, OK; and son Sean and wife Kelsey, and granddaughter Hadlea of Stillwater, OK. His grandchildren Mark, Jeahrin, and Hadlea, were his pride and joy, with whom he had plans of sharing many adventures on the farm.

Dan is also survived by his brothers, Dwelle Hogan of Tarkio Missouri; and David Hogan and wife Barbara of Jamestown, North Dakota. Additionally, he is survived by his father-in-law and mentor, E. Louis Anderson; and brother-in-law and friend Lynn Anderson, both of Norton KS; and sister-in-law, Cassie Anderson, of Colby, KS.

For Dan, family spanned far deeper than blood-relations. He is also survived by Yvonne, Toni’s best friend and church sponsor; her daughter Brianne and husband Josh, their children Bailey, Stile, and Declan; daughter Jessica and husband Luis, and their children Elizabeth and Frankie; daughter Emma (Dan and Toni’s goddaughter); son Kenton, and daughter Stephanie and husband Troy, and their son Carter.

Daniel Hogan’s life reach was far, wide, and deep.  He leaves many additional family members including nieces and nephews, godchildren, dear friends, and business and personal associates to mourn the loss of this man who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. His passing leaves a gaping hole in our hearts that will never be filled. We look forward to the day when we meet again and can ask “How are you doing, Dan?” and to hear his familiar reply of “Finer than frog hair split six ways!”

Eternal rest grant unto him, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
