David Litchfield

July 24, 1969 — February 2, 2008

In July 1969, man first set foot on the lunar surface and shortly thereafter, D. C. Litchfield, landed in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the first time. He was born July 24, 1969 to Mary Jane (Brooks) and Dale Litchfield, SR. gaining immediate popularity as the beloved baby brother of Jan, Dale Jr. and Diana. He left Tulsa for the last time in mid-January for Honolulu, Hawaii where he died unexpectantly at 38 years of age on Saturday, February 2, 2008. While a resident of Disney, Oklahoma and Honolulu, Hawaii, he was a man who loved adventure and he traveled the world making friends all across the US and in Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean and beyond. D. C. a merchant marine had moved to Honolulu six months ago and was working as a First Engineer on the research ship Ka'Imikai-o-kanaloa for the University of Hawaii, where his Grandmother, Jean Brooks once studied. D.C. was a graduate of Catoosa High School and had attended the Tulsa Community College. His career began in the construction industry like his father and his grandfather on the Litchfield side, but soon turned to more adventurous interests following in the footsteps of his grandparents on the Brooks side as he traveled to Alaska, Louisiana, and Hawaii where he had worked on board commercial ships as a Chief or First engineer. He was a devoted brother and friend to many. He loved acquiring and developing property, spending time with his God children in support of their educational and personal interests, and spending time with family and friends fishing, boating, sailing, traveling, skydiving, cheering for the United Kingdom based-Liverpool Football Club, and joining his brother, Dale Jr, and his recently deceased father annually at the Okeene Rattlesnake Hunt. As the youngest, he has long held the important responsibility of distributing gifts from under the tree in his very own Santa hat. His joy at Christmas will be a treasured memory of this remarkable, joyful and loving man. D. C. was a member of the First Baptist Church of Disney and the Catoosa Masonic Lodge. His surviving family includes his two sisters, Diana Litchfield of Claremore, Jan Babiak and husband Brian of London, England, his brother, Dale Litchfield, Jr. of Disney, his grandmother, Janis "Jean" Brooks of Jay, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins as well as his extended family of God-children, close friends and his brothers in the Masonic community. He leaves us to join family members who preceded him in death including his parents, Mary Jane Brooks on October 30, 1991, Dale Litchfield, Sr. on October 16, 2007, grandparents, Fred Brooks, Margie and Rollen Litchfield. While we will never understand why we were only given 38 years to enjoy his spirit and friendship, we will miss him but we will always love him and be grateful that he was a part of our lives. We look forward to the day when we will see his smiling face again.
