David Luinstra

October 28, 1922 — January 6, 2009

David Daniel Luinstra went to join our Lord on January 6, 2009 after a brief illness. He was born October 28, 1922 at Laverne, Oklahoma. He attended Copan High School where he played football for the Copan Hornets. He left before graduating to join the U.S. Army effort in World War II. His grades were good enough he was granted his high school diploma in absentia. He married Joy Kathryn Davis on June 10, 1944. He will be best remembered for his selfless service to the many less-fortunate he aided throughout his lifetime. He was a member of First Baptist Church for 63 years where he taught Sunday School for 42 years and was active in the bus ministry for more than 20 years. He tithed and gave freely throughout his life. He loved his garden and flower beds. The more he gave away, the happier he became. He received the Thanks Badge and Green Angel Award from the Bluestem Girl Scout Council for his many years of outstanding service. He retired from Public Service in October 1984 after 38 years of service. Pallbearers are his co-workers: Bob Harton, Darryl Henry, Kenny Larmore, Alva Seaver, Jr., Eddie Sise and Gary Smith. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 55 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and seven brothers. He is survived by his wife, Joy, a son, David L. Luinstra of Grimsley, TN, 2 daughters, Stella Moody of Bartlesville and Marge Burton of Hulbert, 5 grandchildren, 1 foster grandson, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, 3 half-sisters, 3 sisters-in-law, and a host of friends. Services will be held at First Baptist Church at 2:00 pm on Friday January 9, 2009, with his cherished friend Rev. Mike McNair officiating, assisted by nephew Larry Ballard and close personal friend Father Pat Galaas. Music will be provided by his nephew Bennie Luinstra and lifelong friend Ruth Weldon. Interment will be at the Dewey Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
