Debbie Marie Byfield, 56-year-old Nowata resident, passed away Friday, February 19, 2010 at her home. Mrs. Byfield was born in Chief Journeycake's house on July 25, 1953, the daughter of Franklin John Hash and Mary Grace Starns-Hash. Mrs. Byfield attended schools in Alluwe and later became employed with the Nowata County Sheriff's Office. She worked for the Sheriff's Office for more than 17 years, serving five different sheriffs. Mrs. Byfield was an advocate for women and children and was passionate about fighting crimes against them. She also loved her family and enjoyed every moment she was able to spend with them. Mrs. Byfield is survived by her husband, Brad Boyles of the home; by three children, John David Robinson and his wife Tiffany of Nowata, Mary Robinson of Nowata, and Jennifer Sutherlin and her husband T.J. of Nowata; by eight siblings, Josephine Albert of Nowata, Elizabeth Wilson of Montana, Hew Hash of Nowata, Carolyn Robinson of Montana, Cora Livingston of Nowata, Katherine Giles of Montana, Patty Jacobs of Nowata, and Ben Hash of Kansas; by eight grandchildren; by one great-grandchild; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; by one brother, Bud Hash; and by one grandchild. Funeral services for Mrs. Byfield will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Nowata with Rev. Todd Brock officiating. Interment will follow in the Winganon Cemetery under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata.
