Delbert O'Neal

October 31, 1919 — June 14, 2013

Delbert F. "Fuzzy" O'Neal, 93, of Grove, Oklahoma and a former, long-time resident of Bartlesville, died early Friday morning, June 14, 2013 at Integris Grove General Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the graveside in Bartlesville's White Rose Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, June17, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and the family will be available to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Services, interment and military rites are under the direction of Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home. Mr. O'Neal's family suggests that those who wish may donate to their favorite charity in honor of "Fuzzy". Mr. O'Neal was born October 31, 1919 at Olden, Texas to Jesse O'Neal and Minnie (West) O'Neal. Fuzzy came to the Copan/Bartlesville area as an infant and, except for his military and CCC service, lived his entire life there. By age 17, Mr. O'Neal went to Estes Park and Grand Junction, Colorado to the CCC camp and worked on the Osage Hills State Park east of Bartlesville. As a member of the U.S. Army, he served in the 912th Field Artillery Battalion, 87th Infantry Division and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his honorable discharge, Fuzzy returned to civilian life as a butcher. He worked for Landers Bros., IGA, Safeway and others. Mr. O'Neal once said that he drew his first and last paycheck from Landers Bros. some 60 years apart. Fuzzy married Letta Mae Franks on March 10, 1942 and she preceded him in death on August 29, 1987. He had moved to Grove eight years ago. Mr. O'Neal was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, Bartlesville and was well known for his knife sharpening skills. Delbert "Fuzzy" O'Neal is survived by three sons, Delbert M. O'Neal and his wife, Arleta of Sand Springs, OK, Tim O'Neal and his wife, Ellen of Oklahoma City and Daniel O'Neal and his wife, Breniss of Tulsa; a good friend, Mae Baker of Grove; special caregivers, Bill & Clara Payne of Gravette, Arkansas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Letta Mae; by a son, Mike and by a granddaughter, Kim O'Neal; by one sister, Leotta Payne and a brother, Nathan O'Neal.
