Dona Thompson

Dona Thompson, 89, a long-time resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma died Saturday, November 3, 2012 in Mandeville, Louisiana. Dona was born March 11, 1923 in Wichita, Kansas the daughter of Carl R. and Lucile (Look) Burkhead. While attending Kansas University, where Dona attained her Bachelor's degree and received training to become a Laboratory Technician, she also met and was eventually united in marriage to Mr. Kay W. Thompson; they were married on August 17, 1946 in Lawrence, Kansas. Dona was a true helpmate to Kay and a wonderful mother to their children, as Kay's career with Phillips took the family to Kansas City, Houston, Utah, Calgary, Alberta and England. Dona and Kay would eventually make Bartlesville their home. Shortly after the death of Mr. Thompson in 2004, Dona moved to Louisiana to be close to her daughter, Janet. When able, Dona enjoyed playing golf and swimming. She also loved to have her family together and always looked forward to seeing her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dona was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bartlesville. Dona was preceded in death by: her husband, Kay W. Thompson and her parents. She is survived by: her children: son, John Thompson and wife Jan of Creede, CO; daughter, Janet Sumpter and husband Mike of New Orleans, LA and son, Steve Thompson of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren, with one more on the way. The family suggests memorial donations be made in Dona's name to the charity of your choice.
