Donn Phillip Pennel, age 69, a longtime resident of Langley, OK died Sunday February 8, 2009 at his home. He was born in Vici, Ok the son of J.C. and Fern (Evans) Pennel. He was raised in Pryor where he received his formal education graduating from Pryor high school. Don was a veteran paratrooper serving with the 101st. airborne division of the U.S. Army. Donn spent his 35 year career in law enforcement working with the Mayes County Sheriff's Department, the Vinita Police Department, and the Choteau Police Department where he served as Police Chief and volunteer fireman for seven and a half years. He retired in 1999 after 22 years from GRDA where he was a as a lake patrol officer. He enjoyed working on cars, vacationing in Colorado, camping, fishing panning for gold with his family. Donn is survived by one son, Larry Pennel of Langley, two sisters, Myrna Kidd of Sebring, FL, Carla Stoner of Claremore, OK, two brothers, Allen Pennel of Las Vegas, Nevada, Carl Roberts of Pryor, OK, two nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step father, Carl Roberts, three brothers Gary Pennel, Michael Roberts and Cale Pennel. A memorial service will be Thursday February 12, 2009 at 200 p.m. at Cherokee Lakeside park at Disney, OK with Chaplain John McPhail officiating under the direction of Luginbuel South Grand Lake Funeral home.
