Donna Marie Conner Fields, 80, a life-long resident of the Grove area passed from this life Thursday morning, January 8, 2009 at Grove Nursing Center in Grove, OK. Donna was born July 28, 1928 to Millard Leo "Bob" Conner and Fairy Marie DuBois Conner in Bernice, OK. Her family moved to the Zena area as the lake began to fill in. Her early school years were spent in a two-room school in the Dennis Community. She graduated from Grove High School in 1946. Donna worked at what was the State Bank of Grove, later becoming Bank of Oklahoma for 37 years before her retirement. Donna and her high school sweetheart, James "Jim" Earl Fields were married December 8, 1946. They were married at the residence of Church of Christ Minister Ralph E. Bivens in Afton, OK. They were together 52 years and eight months before his death on August 28, 1999. Jim was a farmer on Cowskin Prairie and is where they made their home, raised their family, and lived out their years. Donna was a joyful and faithful Christian, working mother and farmers wife. She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. She loved singing and the highlights of her life were God, family, and being with all her grandchildren. Donna is survived by: daughter Donna Myrene Claxton and grandson Heath Claxton of Grove; son James Keith Fields and his wife Kay and grandchildren Lora Younger, Tina Bauer, Amanda Moffett and Dustin Fields all of Grove; and great grandchildren Brianna and Tori Bauer, Robert and Laramie Moffett and Emma and Keith Fields; sister-in-law Leta Harrison and brother-in-law Eldo Fields; several nieces and nephews, aunts, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by husband Jim, her parents, one sister, two brothers and by her son-in-law Benny Claxton. The family will receive friends at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009. Services will be Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Grove. Burial will be at Fields Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Good Shepherd Hospice through the funeral home.
