Doris Elaine Smith

May 11, 1942 — March 13, 2024

Doris Elaine Burns Smith was born March 11, 1942, in Fort Springs West Virginia. She grew up in the Alluwe, Nowata area and attended Nowata public schools.

Doris met Paul R. Smith and they were married December 20, 1958, in Dewey, Ok. Paul was serving in the U.S. Army art Fort Sill, OK at the time of their marriage. The couple resided there until 1960 and moved back to Dewey for a brief time. Doris & Paul moved to California for 6 years where they worked and grew their family. They moved back to Dewey in 1969 where they made their permanent home. Paul & Doris lived in Dewey until 2003.  Upon Paul’s death she moved to Langley, OK to enjoy her retirement.  She moved back to Dewey, OK in 2023 and lived with her daughter while she was fighting a battle with cancer.

Doris passed away with the support and love of her brother, Earl Burns. Earl sang her ol’ time country gospel hymns until she left this world to reunite with Paul, Jimmy (a son), Luther & Ella Mae Burns and many loved ones.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; Luther & Ella Mae Burns, husband; Paul, and a son; Jimmy Smith.

Doris truly loved and cherished her family. Family was the most important thing in this world to Doris.  She is survived by 4 sons; Chuck, Mike, Bobby, and Drew, one daughter, Tina Valentine, 27 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, brothers Earl & Don Burns, one sister and best friend; Rosie Watters.

Her graveside service will be Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 11:00 am at Memorial Park Cemetery Bartlesville, Ok. She will lay to rest beside her beloved Paul.
