Benjamin Funeral Service ~ Nowata, Oklahoma.......................................... Dorothy Mae Brown, 86, of Bartlesville passed away June 24, 2015 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was born March 23, 1929 North of Coffeyville, Kansas to Marion Harold and Zeda Belle (Arnold) Sheedy. She lived in Childers where she was a 1948 graduate of Childers High School. Dorothy married Carl Harden Brown on March 28 1950. They made their home in the Nowata area. Dorothy worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. In 1963 they moved to Claremore and eventually moved to Bartlesville where she was the first woman frame technician moving wires on the board for Bell. Dorothy retired after 35 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Nowata and a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers. Dorothy was a very good friend to many of the workers she worked with as well as many people she met. She enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, and working puzzles. She loved traveling with her family and she held her family close to her heart. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Dorothy will be missed by all who knew her. Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Patricia Leak of Bartlesville; a sister, Delva Louise Heath of Shallow Water, Texas; a brother, Frank D. "Brownie" Bean of Sun City, California; two half-sisters, Joyce Sheedy and Shirley Bienkowski both of Oklahoma City, OK; a half-brother, David Sheedy of Morris, OK; two grandchildren, Shannon Leak and wife Toye of Bartlesville and Dawna Howle and husband Paul of Camby, Indiana, and eight great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Zeda Sheedy; her husband, Carl Brown; the aunt and uncle who raised her, Roy and Julia Bean; a son-in-law, Edwin Leak; a brother, Benny Sheedy.
