Douglas Turner Coker 93 of Nowata passed away at 4:40 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2009 in the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Nowata. Douglas Turner Coker was born on March 24, 1915 in Nowata, Oklahoma to Arthur Lee and Addie Elzora (Turner) Coker. Douglas was privileged to have grown up with 5 brothers and 4 sisters, they attended Delaware Public School. He married Lenoris Emma Wilcox on June 2, 1935 in Jay, Oklahoma. After nearly 63 years of marriage Lenoris went before him to be with the Lord on February 1, 1998. Douglas worked at Landers Grocery in Bartlesville several years prior to his association with Phillips Petroleum Company. In 1942 he started his career with Phillips and after 34 years in February of 1976 he retired as a supervisor of data entry. Douglas and Lenoris retired to Grand Lake in 1977 and in 1980 they moved to a farm in Delaware following the death of Lenoris's brother and in 1992 they moved to Bartlesville. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed going to garage sales. Through various garage sales he would find items to repair which kept him busy, he would then resale them or give them to his friends as gifts. On January 26, 1999 Douglas married Eula Pauline (Nicholson) Allen in Nowata, they have made Nowata their home ever since. Following their marriage they became "snowbirds" and spent the winter months in Mission, Texas. While in Mission they enjoyed attending "jam sessions" and the numerous flea markets where they could visit with fellow "snowbirds". Douglas loved spending time with grandchildren; they were one of the greatest joys of his life. He is survived by his wife Eula Coker of Nowata, his daughter Phyllis J. Madison and her husband Wally of Grove, OK., his son Lesley H. Coker and his wife Deanna of Katy, TX., 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great granddaughters, 2 brothers Don Coker and his wife Wanda of Belen, NM., Mac Coker of Afton, OK., 1 sister Frances Stookey of Nowata, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Addie Coker, his wife Lenoris Coker, 3 sisters Floy Coker, Flora Dodson, and Susie Chappell, 3 brothers Clomer Coker, Elvin Coker, and WW Coker. Funeral services for Mr. Coker are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Hillside Christian Church with Ben Killion officiating. Final committal rites will be accorded to Mr. Coker in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Nowata. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Home. Visitation for Mr. Coker will be from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009 and 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2009 in the Benjamin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Douglas's name can be made to The 1033 Ambulance Service 321 E. Cherokee Ave., Nowata, OK 74048.
