Dr. Clyde (Doc) E. Connor, 76, a former ballroom dance instructor, chiropractor, city councilmember and breakfast lover, died Jan. 9, 2008 in Grove General Hospital. He was born Nov. 9, 1931 in Topeka, Kan. to Clyde James and Hazel Lavina (Jacobson) Connor. He graduated from Hoyt High School in Hoyt, Kan. before enlisting in the U.S. Navy and serving on USS Frank Knox (DDR-742) during the Korean War until 1955. In 1956 in Topeka, Kan., he married Sara Jo Grinnell, who preceded him in death May 1, 1994. The Deputy Sheriff for Shawnee County, Kan. then attended Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Mo. In 1961, after graduation, he moved with his family to Grove, Okla., where he practiced until he retired in 1997. He and Rosanna Pauley married Oct. 2, 1999. From atop of the press box at Grove High School, he leant his voice and announced the halftime performances of the Ridgerunner Band for 15 years and football games for 10 years, earning Honorary Band Director in 1972 and 1973. He was a Past President of Grove Rotary International and a Grove Moose Lodge 2033 charter member, who was awarded the Moose's 4th Humanitarian of the Year Award. Passionate about music, especially Jazz and Big Band, he played guitar, a mean rendition of "Heart and Soul" on piano, and on occasion, was a karaoke superstar. He will be missed by his wife, Rosanna of Grove; two children, Charlette E. and husband Bruce R. Bellefeuille of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Clyde J Connor of Palatka, Fla.; step-daughter, Karla Pauley of Kansas City, Mo.; granddaughter, Lamarie M. Rutelonis of Little Rock, Ark.; great-grandson, Connor Rutelonis; and aunt, Francis Chumley of Topeka, Kan. Services at Olympus Cemetery, in Grove, Okla. will be Monday, January 14 at 10 a.m., Gary Bishop to officiate. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
