Funeral services for Dwight Nelson Sonenberg are 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Wendell Abbott officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Lenapah. Family will be receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Monday, August 21, 2017 at Benjamin Funeral Service. Dwight Nelson "Bubby" Sonenberg, 81, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 at his home in Nowata. He was born January 4, 1936 in Lenapah to Nelson and Gourney (Messmore) Sonenberg. He grew up in Lenapah and graduated Lenapah High School. Dwight farmed and followed the rodeo, he drove a school bus for Lenapah Schools for many years and then became a welder/heat treater with Funk Manufacturing in Coffeyville, Kansas. Dwight was a member of the South Coffeyville United Methodist Church; Nowata Cherokee Community Foundation and the IRA, SCRA and SCA Rodeo Association as both a competitor and judge. He loved to fish and rodeo. Bubby was a real, all-around cowboy. Dwight is survived by his wife Carol, of the home; a son, Doug Sonenberg and his wife LeeAnn of Lenapah, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Douglas Sonenberg, Jr. and his wife Trista of Lenapah, Oklahoma, Leeza Thornton and her husband Dustin of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren, Lacey Thornton, Cholena Thornton, and Alivia Thornton. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Gourney Sonenberg and two sisters, Virginia Cole and Aylene Dickson-Coppock. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
