Earl Lavern Grumbein, 78 year old Vinita resident died at his home on Sunday October 27, 2013. He was born on February 11, 1935 in Brownell, Kansas to Merle and Bertha (Sunley) Grumbein. Earl attended and graduated from Cleora Schools. Earl served his country in the United States Army in Germany for two years. He married Gwen Drake on March 10, 1961 in Vinita at the Trinity Baptist Church. Gwen preceded him in death in March of 2002. He worked as a carpenter with Willard Wells, also Tressler Motor Company, Burnidge Welding Supply, which later became P. G. Walker, retiring from there. During his retirement years he continued work, driving cars for local car dealerships. Earl was a big fan of Vinita sports teams and attended most all the games. He also was an avid fisherman and made jigs for a lot of local fisherman. Earl was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vinita. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, mother in-law, Geneva Canatsey; a brother, Richard Grumbein and sister Betty Wolfe. The surviving family includes: his sons Dale and Ronnie Grumbein both of Vinita; grandson Zachary Grumbein, two brothers, George Grumbein and wife Glenda of Marietta, GA, Ed Grumbein and wife Carol of Claremore; two sisters, Marie Cole and husband Lee of Vinita, Helen Wingard and husband John of Pryor; sister in-law Dorothy Grumbein of Vinita; special friend, Sharon Moore of Vinita; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at the Luginbuel Funeral Home on Wednesday October 30, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Vinita, with Pastors Skip McClain and Steve Holland officiating.
