Ed Davenport

Ed Davenport, 82, died at his home on Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at his home, following an extended illness. Ed was born in Spiro, Oklahoma on July 4, 1925. He was the son of John Wesley Davenport and Myrtle Pinson Davenport. On September 18, 1948, Ed married Ester Marcella Leisy. She preceded him in death on October 12, 2007. Ed was a devoted husband, devoted father, and devoted friend. He worked as a rancher all of his adult life. During his youth, he worked seven years for the railroad, working with teams and slips. He then worked for his uncle in the oil fields of Craig County and later for three years he followed the wheat harvest from Lemmons Canada to Oklahoma. But his love of cattle brought him back to Oklahoma City to work at the Stockyards with his brother, Harold. There in Oklahoma City he met his soul-mate Marcella. They spent fifty-nine years married to one another. Together they worked six years at the Mullendore Ranch in Osage County before moving to Bartlesville. In Bartlesville he worked seven years for Fred Dustin showing horses before moving to Vinita in 1959, where he worked for C.W. Flint at Kelley Ranch for thirty years as foreman. He retired from Flint Ranch in 1987. Ed was preceded in death by his wife Marcella, his parents, his brothers Harold and Bill Davenport, and his sisters Agnus and Juanita. He is survived by three sons; Ed Jr. and wife Debbie; Robert and wife Spring; and Ferris Lee and wife Susan, all of Vinita; also surviving are two sisters; Lena Mae Collinsworth of Skiatook, OK; Jessie Collins of Cushing, OK; one brother Joe Davenport of Jay, OK. Ed is also survived by ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. On December 15, 2007, Ed accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. Loretta Cathey, Bob Ellis and Pastor David Pifer were with him at that time. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita, Oklahoma. George Vaughn and David Pifer will co-preside. Burial will follow immediately. Services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral home of Vinita.
