Edgar Mayhew

Edgar Donald Mayhew, 80, lifetime Nowata resident died Saturday August 1, 2009 at Claremore Regional Hospital. Edgar Donald Mayhew was born March 9, 1929 in Nowata, Oklahoma the son of Oce Artic Mayhew and Ora (Peace) Mayhew. He was raised and educated in the Nowata area. Edgar joined the United States Army and served overseas in Germany during the Korean War. Edgar and Shirley Jean Markham were united in marriage on October 6, 1955 in Nowata, Oklahoma. In 1984 Edgar retired with 21 years of faithful public service with District 1 of Nowata County. Shirley preceded him in death on April 4, 1983. Survivors include one son, Edgar Mayhew, Jr. and his wife Loretta of Vinita; one grandson, Christen Mayhew of Vinita; six sisters, Iris Martin and her husband Jesse of Nowata, Leota Williams and her husband Basil of Wichita, Ks, Doris Thomas and her husband Galatan of Kansas City, Ks, Earlene Mayhew of Tulsa, Janet Owens and her husband Ricky of Nowata, and Bonnie Hubbard and her husband Waymond of Nowata; four brothers, Larry Mayhew and his wife Davene of Nowata, Fred Mayhew and his wife Jeantte of Denver, Co, Raynard Mayhew and his wife Betty of Wichita, Ks, and Bobby Mayhew of Aurora, Co and a host of nieces and nephews. Edgar was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean (Markham) Mayhew, his parents, and two brothers, Wilford Mayhew, and Wendel Mayhew. Funeral Service will be held on Friday August 7, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of the Benjamin Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Manley Cemetery.
