Edith Crumine

October 23, 1903 — February 19, 2011

Jennie "Edith" Crumine, 107 year old resident of San Antonio, TX died Saturday February 19, 2011 at her home. She was born October 23, 1903 at Blue Mound, Kansas the daughter of Hugh Holmes and Jennie Plumley Holmes. The family moved to Centralia, OK when Oklahoma had only been a state for three years and still had a outlaw gang's, one of which living a half mile down the road from them. She met and married Billy Crumrine and together had one daughter, Evelyn Axilene. Edith loved baseball, game shows on television, working crossword puzzles and she read the newspaper daily and played rummy every evening. When WWII broke out Edith and Billy had divorced and moved back to Kansas where Edith got a job as a riveter at Boeing Aircraft and was the original Rosie the Riveter. In 1942 she bought a house where she lived until 2001. In 1950 she was laid off at Boeing and took a job in a hardware store until she was called back to Boeing in 1951 where she remained until her retirement in December 1968. Edith walked everywhere she went and the only car she ever drove was a model T. Edith had one daughter, two granddaughters 8 great grand children, 13 great-great grand children 2 step great-great grandchildren and 6 great-great-great grand children. She is survived by 2 grand daughters, Evelyn "Marcine" Baze of Mounds, OK and Linda Ann Hutcheson of San Antonio, TX, great grandchildren: Debbie Schmidt, Tammy Cartwright, Michael Burton, Jerri Rhodman, Jennie Watashe, Janiene Thomas, great-great grandchildren; Wesley, Sarah, William, Andrew, Nicki, Megan, Melissa, Mandy, James, Jonathan, Jazmine, Cherokee, Tabitha, Andrea; great-great-great grandchildren: Austin, John Allen, Aubrie, Elias, Alexis and Kaiden. She was p;receded in death by one daughter, 4 brothers, 5 sisters and two great grand sons. Graveside services will be Friday 10:00 a.m. February 25, 2011 at Martin Cemetery near Centralia with Mr. James Miller officiating under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home.
