Edith Alta Stephens, 80 year-old Vinita resident, died Monday evening at the St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa. She was born February 2, 1928 in Pryor, Oklahoma to Garland Clifton Charles and Myrtle Mae (Scammahorn) Charles. Edith was a graduate of Big Cabin High School. She was married to Charles Allard, and later to Floyd Stephens both preceded her in death. Edith worked at Southwestern Bell/ATT Telephone Company as an operator for over 34 years. She was a member of the Pioneer Telephone Operators and First Baptist Church in Vinita, where she worked in the nursery for 30 years. Edith was a very busy person taking care of friends and family, fishing, cross stitching, gardening, cooking and baking. Edith is survived by two daughters, Jeannie and husband David Thorne, and Connie and husband Larry Shelby all of Pryor and one son Aaron Allard of Vinita. Sisters include Gladys M. Charles, Shirley Hayes and husband Jim, Barbara M. Smith and husband James, all of Vinita, and Florence Jackson of Big Cabin. Surviving grandchildren include Ronnie Thorne and wife Lissa of Ben Bolt, TX, Wendy Fedora and husband Kip of Pryor, Tim Shelby and wife Kathy of Claremore, Keith Shelby and wife Sheila of Pryor, and Tina Lay and husband John also of Pryor. Edith is also survived by 11 great grandchildren Family will great friends and on Wednesday June 4, 2008 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Luginbuel Funeral Home, Vinita. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday June 5, 2008 at First Baptist Church of Vinita will pastors Paul Clark and Skip McClain officiating. Internment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Vinita.
