Edna Welch

Edna Therese Boaz Welch, age 91, died July 26, 2009, at the Rosewood Terrace Nursing Home in Vinita, Oklahoma. She was born June 17, 1918 the youngest of six children to Charles and Lucy (O'Brien) Boaz of rural Walnut, Kansas. She was baptized in the Catholic religion,and remained an active Catholic all her life. She attended Stark, Ks rural schools. After graduating from Stark High School, she taught in country schools. She then attended Chanute Junior College, Chanute, KS. She married Warren Philip Welch in May, 1944. They lived in the Chanute, Ks area until 1952, when they moved to Erie,KS where they resided until 1970. They then moved to rural Thayer, KS. In 1982 they moved to Miami, Oklahoma. Edna was a homemaker throughout her married life. Warren died November, 2001. She then moved to Vinita, Oklahoma and entered Rosewood Terrace in 2005. Edna had seven living children and one stillborn child. Survivors include: Children: Teresa Brazil, Wellsville,Ks, Jay Welch, Welch, OK, Tim Welch, Galena,KS, Margaret Kellogg, Erie, KS, Stephen Welch, Vinita,OK, and Matt Welch, Topeka, KS. Her oldest son, Phil Welch, died in 2007. One stillborn son, Paul Thomas Welch died in 1948.There are 22 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. One grandson, Casey Welch died in 2004. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Lola Welch Manley and Margaret Welch Johnson, Springfield,MO. Edna was the youngest of six children and all of her Boaz siblings predeceased her. They included: Carl Boaz, Walnut, Ks, Helen Westhoff, Bremerton, Wash., Gertrude Noland Salb, Erie, KS, Grace Carroll, Chanute, KS, and Ralph Boaz, Chanute, KS. The family wishes to express our grateful thanks to the caring and affectionate staff at Rosewood Terrace for their devoted care to our Mother. She was beloved by the nurses and Mother loved them in return. Her stay there was very happy, which gave the family great peace. Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita, OK is in charge of arrangements.There will be a Rosary (5:30 pm)followed by Visitation (6-8 pm) on Wednesday, July 29 at Luginbuel Funeral Home. The funeral will be at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Vinita on Thursday, July 30 at 10 am with Father Alex Kennedy officiating. Burial at the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Walnut, KS Cemetery at 2:30 pm will include a double memorial service for Edna and Warren Welch. Warren's ashes will be interred at this time. The family invites old and dear friends from the area to the burial Memorial in Walnut.Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Ghost Catholic Church of Vinita in care of the funeral home.
