Luginbuel South Grand Lake Funeral Home of Langley 918-782-4400, Edward Lee Johnson, 96 year old former resident of Eucha, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in Marshall, Texas. He was born on November 5, 1918 in Tecumseh, Nebraska to Dennis L. and Lula Belle. (Kennedy) Johnson. After high school Edward joined the United States Army Air Corp, during World War II, He retired in 1963 from the United States Air Force at the Rank of Major with over 22 years of service for his country. While in the military, he was a Sr. Pilot and Co-Pilot of a B-17 and B-24, flying over 30 Missions over Germany and 25 Missions over Korea, he was awarded 8 airman's medals of valor, 2 distinguished flying crosses, and a purple heart. Edward was preceded in death by his first wife Alma Fern Johnson and second wife Dorothy Dean Johnson. He later married his present wife Mary Nell (Etheridge) in March of 1975. The family includes; his wife Mary Nell of the home; children, John Johnson and wife Laura of Riverside, CA, Ken Johnson of San Diego, Gary Johnson of Lakeside, CA, Susan Buck of New Hampshire and James Johnson of Lakeside, CA; four step-children; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was also preceded by sister, Eula Belle Connolly. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Luginbuel South Grand Lake Chapel in Langley, with Pastor Joel Rutherford officiating. Interment and military rites will follow at the GAR Cemetery in Miami, military rites are by the Miami Veterans Detail. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com.
