Eldon "Red" Williams 83 year old Vinita resident, died late Sunday, March 23, 2008 at the St. Francis South Medical Center in Tulsa. He was born July 19, 1924 in near Bluejacket to Milo Francis and Minnie (Worley) Williams. Red served his country during World War II in the U. S. Navy as a Sea Bee in the south Pacific from 1943 to 1946. He was married to Margaret Gilbert for over 62 years; they were married on January 15, 1946 in Independence, Kansas. Red worked as a carpenter for many years in the Vinita area, and had also worked at the Craig General Hospital in Vinita as Supervisor of Maintenance. He served on the Vinita School Board for four terms, as a member and an officer including president. Red also served as a city councilman for Vinita. He was a member of the American Legion Dale Peace Post #40 of Vinita, and had coached the Legion Baseball Teams. Red was also a member of the Vinita Church of Christ, where he had served as an elder. Red enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and working in his shop building things. Preceding him in death were his parents, one son Tracy Williams on October 27, 2007, and nine siblings. The family includes: his wife Margaret of the home, his children, Larry Williams and wife Marie of Vinita, Michael Williams and wife Anne of Vinita, Rick Williams and wife Janice of Tulsa, Stanley Williams of Vinita, and Jeannie Friend and husband John of Adair, a daughter in-law Judi Williams of Vinita; fourteen grandchildren, thirty four great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. The funeral will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Vinita Church of Christ with Justin Garrett and James Woodall officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Grove Veterans Ritual Team. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Kevin Williams, Jeff Williams, David Friend, Ben Friend, Chris Williams and Dean Williams.
