Elizabeth Darling Akright, 92, widow of James R. Akright, died at 6:15 p.m., July 8, 2006, at her residence in Bartlesville. Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, July 15, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church, 505 SE Dewey, Bartlesville. Reverend Andrew Odom officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery directed by Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Elizabeth Akright was born on January 26, 1914, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Jessie Small Darling and Lyman Strong Darling. She attended elementary school in Oklahoma City, as well as Harding Junior High School and Classen High School, where she was a member of the Merry Maids Club. She attended the University of Oklahoma, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology in 1936. She joined Kappa Alpha Theta sorority while at OU and remained a lifetime active member of that organization. Upon her college graduation, she resided in Oklahoma City for two years, where she was a member of the French Heels Social Club. On November 5, 1938, Elizabeth married James Ritchie Akright of Nowata, Oklahoma. The newlyweds made their home in Bartlesville, where Mr. Akright was employed for 41 years in the Tax Department of Phillips Petroleum Company. Elizabeth was an active member of the Service League of Bartlesville and the Church Circle of the First Presbyterian Church. Jim and Elizabeth raised their two daughters, Susan and Carol, in Bartlesville and remained here for their entire married life. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, who died in 1994, as well as by her two sisters, Ruth Rooks of Chicago, Illinois and Marietta Kendall of Seguin, Texas, her three brothers-in-law, Newton Rooks, Ed Kendall and Frank Akright, her sister-in-law, Janice Akright, and her parents, Jessie and Lyman Darling. She leaves behind her two daughters, Susan Stanton of Houston, Texas, and Carol Akright of Corrales, New Mexico, two sons-in-laws, Paul Stanton and Mark Nash, two grandsons, Scott Stanton and Mark Stanton, both of California, five nieces and nephews, and many family friends who have enjoyed her giving nature and good listening ear for many years. She was well-loved and will be missed by all who enjoyed being included in her circle of love. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the General Scholarship Fund of the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation.
