Ella Mae Tooley - "Little Chief Riley", 91 year old Jay resident, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the home of her daughter. She was born May 4, 1920 in Miami, Oklahoma to Owen and Willie (Raper) Riley. Ella was a graduate of Ketchum High School and was an outstanding basketball player. She played for the Red Heads Professional Women's Traveling Basketball Team and Helen Stephens Olympic Co-Eds, the 1940 World Champions. Ella was noted by the famous Robert Ripley (Ripley's Believe It or Not) for scoring 68 points against a championship caliber team from Michigan. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, First United Methodist Church of Jay and the Cherokee Nation. Ella was retired from the Delaware County Bank, where she was an Assistant Vice President. The family includes: her daughter, Sallie Dietrich of Langley, two adopted children, Johnny Bares of Houston, Texas and Jane Trepangier of Biloxi, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Dewayne Dietrich-Newton, Marquetta Dietrich, Willie Dietrich, and Wesley Dietrich; also numerous other relatives and friends. The funeral will be held Friday, March 16, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, with Pastor Mike Earp officiating. Interment will follow at the Ketchum Cemetery.
