Elmer R. Leisure, 96, resident of Bartlesville, died Thursday, February 26, 2009 in Bartlesville, Ok. Elmer R. Leisure was born September 28, 1912 in Carl Junction, Missouri to Harry and Eva Leisure. In 1918, the family moved to Coffeyville, Kansas and he received his elementary education. In 1926, they moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas and he graduated from high school. In 1930, Elmer moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas and graduated from the University of Arkansas with a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1934. He worked for the U.S. Soil Conservation Dept for two years in Louisiana and Texas. On December 24, 1935 Elmer married Estelle Burton of Fort Smith, Arkansas. They enjoyed 50 happy years of marriage. He worked for the Union Electric Power Company at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. He went to work for Phillips Petroleum in 1937 as a junior engineer. Elmer worked in oil production in L.A., Texas, and Arkansas. They moved to Bartlesville in 1950 and worked as a Senior Production Engineer until his retirement. He was an active member of the Bartlesville Sportsman's Club, life member of the Phillips Means Club and the Arkansas University Alumni Association. Elmer is survived by his nephew, Jack Leisure and his wife Lynn of Bartlesville and a niece, Martha Allen, and her husband, Ben, of Kerville, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and four brothers. Graveside services for Mr. Leisure will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Dennis Voth of the First Christian Church of Bartlesville, Ok. will preside over the services, with interment to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
