Elton Leroy Raney, 92 year old Grove, Oklahoma, resident passed away Monday, June 20, 2011, following a sudden illness. Elton was born on May 25, 1919 in Casper, Wyoming, to Elmer and Lula Augusta (Whitaker) Raney. Elton served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, where he primarily worked as an aircraft trainer and later worked on the plane that would drop the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima. Elton was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling in his R.V. as well as playing dominos. He was also a member of The Good Samaritans Club. Elton was preceded in death by his wife Nellie and four brothers, Milo, Ivan, Alvin, and Peter. Elton is survived by his son, Harley Raney of Mulvane, KS: his brother, Clifton Raney of Everett, Idaho; his sister, Lola Fuller of Vacaville, California; two grandchildren, Lee Raney of Frisco, TX and Deana Ransdell of Tulsa, OK. and five great grandchildren A gathering in honor of Elton Raney will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2011, from 1:30 - 3:00 at the Grove Senior Citizens Center. In Lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made in Elton's name to the Grove Senior Citizens Center.
