Emma Lou (Browning) Cox passed away August 10, 2022. Emma was born to Clarence William Browning and Thelma Mary (Howell) Browning on September 17, 1931, in Howe, Oklahoma.
Emma earned her high school diploma from Fort Gibson, her bachelor’s degree in Education from Northeastern State University, and a master’s degree from West Texas State University.
Emma married the love of her life, H. Wayne Cox, on June 7, 1963, in Fairfax, OK. They made their home in Bartlesville, where she taught at Madison Junior High. They moved to Borger, TX with Wayne’s job and Emma continued her career teaching in Phillips, TX before her retirement. After retiring, she and Wayne moved back to Bartlesville.
Emma enjoyed needlework, quilting, cross stitching, reading, traveling, and attending worship and activities at East Cross United Methodist Church.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Salvation Army Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a grandson Austin Wayne Cox.
She is survived by two sons; Leslie Wayne Cox and his wife Marylin of Oklahoma, Stephen R. Cox and his wife Pamela of New Mexico; daughter Carol Cox Stewart and her husband John S. of Florida; sister Mary Retherford of Collinsville; three nieces, two nephews, two granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, one great-grandson.
Visitation is Sunday, August 14, from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm with the family present to greet guests from 5:00-7:00.
Funeral Service is Monday, August 15, beginning with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery at 10:00 am and followed by a memorial service East Cross United Methodist Church at 11:00 am.
