Eugene Green

Eugene W. "Gene" Green, 75 year old resident of Claremore, formerly of Vinita, died Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. He was born November 5, 1936 in Center, Colorado to Ruth (Cook) and Ausbin W. Green. Gene graduated from Vinita High School in 1957. He was united in marriage to Fern Prather on November 19, 1961 near White Oak, Oklahoma. Gene worked for Northeast Oklahoma Electric Cooperative, where he served as shop foreman and field superintendent in his 36 years before he retired in 1995. Working cattle and improving his pastures became his full time hobby, something he truly loved to do. They sold their farm in Vinita and moved to Claremore in 2008. Gene was a member of the Memorial Heights Baptist Church in Claremore; he had formerly belonged to First Baptist Church in Vinita. He was a hunter, fisherman, gardener, and cook for his family, friends and benefits. Going quail hunting and sharing the outdoors, telling stories with his fellow hunters and friends was his true love. As the years went by, the stories got better and BIGGER. His hobby of fishing continued and he loved to cook the fish, and shared in the cooking of "The Mayor's Cooking Team". He loved to share his garden and fruit trees with many neighbors and friends. The family includes: his wife Fern of the home; daughters, Lacinda "Cindy" Green of Oklahoma City, Michelle Allard of Vinita; grandson, Evan Allard, granddaughter Erica Renee' Allard both of Vinita; sisters, Leona James and husband Jesse of Fairland, LaVona Ashford and husband Melvin of Tulsa; sister in-law, Patty Green of Vinita; Aunt Laura Browning of Grove, and Uncle Jesse Cook of California. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Laverne "Poody" Green, a sister Janice Elrod and her husband Donnie. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Vinita, with Rev. Paul Simpson officiating, assisted by Rev. Steve Holland. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita; Dr. Henry Haynes will do the graveside service.
