Stan Jones, businessman, community leader and loving husband, died Sunday, April 13, 2008. He was 64. Stan was born in Kansas City, Missouri and attended McCoy Grade School and William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri. Stan was active in Boy Scouts and enjoyed camping. He was also an accomplished pianist. He graduated from high school in 1961. Stan graduated from Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri in 1966. He was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Stan served in the Air Force at McDonnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas. He married Beverly Jean Brown in 1966 and they moved to Jay, Oklahoma in 1968. In 1969, they purchased the Grand River Abstract office from Floyd and Margaret Hanes. Stan had many other business ventures over the years including shopping centers, bookstores, apartments, cattle farming and real estate brokerage. Stan served his community in many ways including memberships on the Jay School Board, Jay Industrial Board, Grove Hospital Board and was a charter member and chairman of the Grand Savings and Loan Board of Directors. Stan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jay where he served as treasurer and was a Sunday School teacher. Stan enjoyed golfing, hunting, boating, flying, landscaping, remodeling, jogging and weight-lifting. Stan's greatest joys came from being with his family and friends. Stan is survived by his wife, Beverly Jones; two sisters, Ellen Wyatt and Marilyn McCoy; three daughters, Laura Dishman, Michelle Moore, Susanna Conaway and six grandchildren, Gracie Dishman, Grant Stanton Dishman, Miley Moore, Hattie Moore, Bryanna Conaway and Ava Conaway. Preceding him in death were his father, Eugene Larabee Jones and his mother, Ann Frances Jones. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Jay, Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Duffield Cemetery, Jay.
