Eugene Wood Jr.

Eugene North Wood, Jr., age 73 of Afton, died Friday, February 26, 2010 at his home. North was born in Tulsa on October 13, 1936, the son of Eugene North Wood, Sr. and Blanche (Mullen) Wood. He graduated from Central High School in 1954. In 1958 he graduated from Harvard with a degree in Chemistry. He graduated from Notre Dame with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1960. In 1961 he enlisted in the Army, and in 1965 he graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a master's degree in Chemistry. North was united in marriage to Dixie Ackerson on April 20, 1974 when they moved to Grand Lake. This bond introduced 6 step children into his life and he loved each one of them as his own. Besides his family, North also loved to golf and had several golfing buddies. He also worked for GRDA numerous years before his retirement in 1999. North is survived by his loving wife Dixie of the home, children: Linda Harrigan of Kansas City, MO, Dianna Jones and husband Keith of Raytown, MO, Michael Ackerson and wife Sharon of Fayetteville, AR, Karen Biondi and husband Donald of Parkville, MO, Sharon Maxville and husband David of Vinita, and Brian Ackerson and wife Sue of Afton, 25 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, and one great grandchild. Visitation will be Sunday, February 28, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 1, 2010 at Luginbuel Funeral Chapel with Pastor Eddie Wrinkle officiating. Interment will follow at McLaughlin Cemetery.
