Eunice Braswell

Eunice Octavia Braswell, 89 year old former Chelsea business person, died late Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at the Craig General Hospital in Vinita. Eunice was born August 26, 1917 in Rose, Oklahoma to Floyd Candler Jessee and Leona Viola McLaughlin Jessee. She attended school at Glencoe Oklahoma, where her and her sister Eloise would walk 1 ½ miles to school each day one way, on snowy days her brother George would let them ride on the horse with them, they enjoyed stopping at the blacksmiths for a drink that was drawn from the well for them by the blacksmith. Eunice married Wilbur G. Braswell on December 23, 1939, in Tulsa; he died on their 50th anniversary on December 23, 1989. Together they had a farm, a farm implement business, and lastly the Braswell LP Gas Company in Chelsea for many, many years. Eunice and Wilbur were very active members of the First Christian Church of Vinita, where Wilber had served also as an elder. Eunice was also active in the Christian Women's Fellowship. Eunice and Wilbur were raised only a few miles apart near Glencoe, where both their parents participated in the Oklahoma Land Run. They had lived in the Yale, area until 1943, then moved to Vinita until 1955, then to Chelsea. She had been a resident of Heartsworth and Rosewood Terrace for the last several years. The family includes; one sister, Eloise Bethards of Fall City, Washington, nephews, Bill Beatty of Dallas, Texas and Charles Bethards of Enterprise, Oregon, a very special niece, Maxine Tautfest of Marlin, Oklahoma, numerous other nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Preceding her in death, were her husband, parents, siblings, Oscar Jessee, George Jessee, Haskell Jessee, Lucille Laughlin, and Maud White, and a daughter Jessee Rae Braswell in 1941. The funeral service will be held Monday, July 16, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Vinita, with Pastor Bill Beard officiating. The graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2007 at the Glencoe I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com.
