Evelyn Overton

January 10, 1917 — August 11, 2007

Evelyn Wright Overton, age 90 died after a brief illness on August 11, 2007 at Green Country Village in Bartlesville, where her husband John P. Overton still resides. Evie was born January 10, 1917, the only child of Stella M. and Francis E. Wright of Tulsa. She graduated from Tulsa University where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and the Pep Queen of Tulsa University. Evie was first married to William Thomas "Bill" Ford for 25 years, and lived in Bartlesville, Florida and North Carolina. They had two children. She then returned to Bartlesville and was married to Henry Hettinger until his death. Over the course of her long, interesting life, Evie was an energetic wife, mother, world traveler, dog lover, member of numerous clubs and organizations; and, she enjoyed gardening, playing golf, decorating, collecting, reading, sewing, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards. Surviving are her son James T. Ford of Cedar Key, FL, and her daughter Lucy Ford Armfield and husband Bob of Winston - Salem, NC; two grandsons Scott L. Byrd and wife Angie of Charleston, SC and Brett W. Byrd and wife Michelle of Winston - Salem. Her five great grandchildren are Will, Ellie Abby, Carson and Kinsey Byrd. The family wishes to express its deepest appreciation and gratitude to Esther Reid and Stephen Colaw for the loving care they gave Evie during the last two years. She loved both of them. A graveside service will be conducted at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday August 17, 2007 with The Reverend Andrew Odom officiating under the direction of the Neekamp -Luginbuel Funeral Home. Memorial's have been established in Mrs. Overton's name with the Washington County SPCA. Those who wish to make a donation may do so in care of their office, 16620 St. Hwy 123, Bartlesville, OK 74003.
