Farol Hightower

Farol L. Hightower, 89, a long time Barnsdall resident, and widow of Joe E. Hightower, passed away in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on April 1, 2023. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 6, at 11:00 at The First Baptist Church of Barnsdall.

Farol was born in a small farmhouse in Allen County, KS on June 18, 1933, to Riley and Nora Low. Her family moved to Pryor, Oklahoma where she grew up and graduated from Pryor High School in 1951. She went on to attend St. John’s Nursing School receiving her diploma as a registered nurse while completing rotations in many difficult fields such as psych wards and polio wards.

She married Joe E. Hightower on March 29, 1956, moving to Barnsdall, Oklahoma. She split her time working in the Hightower Grocery Store and as a shift nurse before settling into a teaching position at Tri-County Tech in Bartlesville teaching LPN courses. She was well respected in the community and was often the first point of contact for any injuries or health issues in Barnsdall. A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Barnsdall where she served as a Sunday School teacher and part of the funeral meal team. Farol was also a 65-year member and former president of the PEO sisterhood chapter DM. She had a heart for service and a heart for the Lord and was an avid supporter and volunteer at Oklahoma Baptist Children’s Homes and Hope Pregnancy Center.

Farol was preceded in death by Joe in September 2004, and continued to live on their Osage County ranch until her final days. She is survived by her brother Darrell of Claremore and her daughter, Cathey and her husband Kent Lagree of Arkansas. Son, David and his wife Teri Hightower of Bartlesville, seven grandchildren, Megen(Lagree) and her husband Calvin Barr of Louisiana, Ashlee Hightower of Bartlesville, Collin and his wife Shelley Lagree of Texas, Landon and his wife Courtney Lagree of Owasso, Molly(Hightower) and her husband Stephen Williams of Texas, Jordan and his wife Kara Lagree Kentucky, and Jayme Hightower of Oklahoma City, and eight great grandchildren.

Gifts in memory of Farol can be sent to First Baptist of Barnsdall or to the Oklahoma Baptist Children’s Home.
