Funeral services for long time Nowata resident Faye "Nell" Hathcoat were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Nowata with DR. Rev. Larry DeLay and Rev. Wayne Clayton officiating. Interment will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service. Nell was born September 17, 1922 to Silas J. and Susan (Barnes) Kuykendall (Kirkendall) in rural Hunt County, Texas, near the town of Leonard. She died in Nowata on Saturday, March 16, 2013, in Nowata. She received her early education in the Leonard area and graduated from high school in Merit, Texas. Nell met Woodrow Wilson (Woodie) Hathcoat, of Nowata, while he was serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. They were married October 5, 1943, in Texarkana, Arkansas. After his discharge they moved to Nowata where they resided most of their married life. She was a housewife and mother of three sons. She was involved in helping with school activities while her boys were in Nowata Schools. "After the boys were gone" she was even more involved in local activities and organizations. Nell was noted for her involvement with the 1033 Emergency Team where she was a dispatcher and the "get'er done" person for many years. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Nowata, Nowata County Historical Society, and Past President of the Nowata V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Nell was honored as the 2004, "Citizen of the Year," by the Nowata Area Chamber of Commerce, in recognition of her dedication and contributions in the Nowata area community. Nell is survived by two sons, Thomas K. (Tom) Hathcoat and wife Jackie, of Broken Arrow, OK and Roger E (Shmoo) Hathcoat and significant other of many years and best friend ever, Lorraine Hindman, of Nowata; grandchildren, Edward (Eddie) Hathcoat and son Ethan of Broken Arrow, Kelly Hathcoat of Broken Arrow, Nathan Hathcoat and wife Valerie and their children, Justin Partain, Nicole and Ethan of Nowata, Barry Hathcoat and wife Keri and their children Catelin and Collin of Jenks, OK, and Brett Hathcoat of Nowata. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Woodie on May 17, 1991, oldest son Charles W. (Dub) on January 30, 2001, 3 sisters, two brothers, and two infant siblings. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the 1033 Team Wheelchair Van service at 321 E. Cherokee, Nowata, OK 74048 or to the charity of your choice.
