Flavious Cornelious O'Gara, Jr., age 87 and resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, in the Bartlesville Care Center. Flavious was born on June 13, 1927 in Vinita, Oklahoma. He was the son of Flavious Cornelious O'Gara, Sr. and Flossie Mae (Sweatman) O'Gara. He attended the first grade at Afton public schools and that summer the family moved to Bartlesville. In Bartlesville, he attended Lincoln and Washington schools, graduating from Bartlesville High School. Flavious served his Country in the U.S. Navy, from 1945-1946. In 1948, he became an employee of Phillips Petroleum Company where he was a loyal employee for 38 years, retiring from the Accounting/Controllers' Department. Flavious married Barbara Seaton on December 27, 1951 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. For a short time after their marriage, they lived in New Orleans, Louisiana, before returning to Bartlesville. Flavious and Barbara were married for 63+ years prior to his death. After Flavious' retirement from Phillips Petroleum Company, he operated O'Gara Tax Service in Bartlesville for many years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bartlesville, where he served as their treasurer. He was always active in the various organizations around Bartlesville. In April of 1989, he was honored by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) for computer programming, benefiting DHS. He also was a member of the Bartlesville Kiddie Park Board of Directors as their treasurer. When the O'Gara children were young, Flavious was active in almost all of their organizations - usually as club treasurer. He had his Private Pilot's License and he and Barbara enjoyed traveling to Round Dance festivals across the U.S. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; five children, Patti Steinbrook and her husband, B.J., of Plano, Texas, Steve O'Gara of Arlington, Virginia, Jana Hawk of Bartlesville, Lisa Percival and her husband, Kent, of Edmond, Oklahoma and Mindy O'Gara of Decatur, Georgia; three grandchildren, Allison Berney and her husband, Jason, of Englewood, Colorado, Lauren Donalson and her husband, B.J., of Frisco, Texas and Connor Steinbrook of Plano, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Claire Donalson; and two sisters, Betty Hill of Grove City, Ohio and Barbara Jean Sikes of Baxter Springs, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be held on Sunday from 3-4:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Services for Mr. O'Gara will be held on Monday, March 16, at 10:00 AM, in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow the service in White Rose Cemetery.
