Florence Iva Hamil, 89-year-old Nowata resident, passed away Monday, April 27, 2009 in the Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center. Mrs. Hamil was born January 7, 1920 in Nowata, Oklahoma to Herbert Cecil Brannan and Vernie Lee Young-Brannan. She grew up and attended schools in Nowata and graduated with the Class of 1938. She married Eugene Hamil and they continued to live in Nowata where Mrs. Hamil worked in the office for Harry Hunter at the Abstract Office. Mrs. Hamil enjoyed cooking and was known for her self-made recipes that she kept top-secret. She also enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her grandson and her great-granddaughters. Mrs. Hamil was also an active member of the Cornerstone Community Church in Nowata. Mrs. Hamil is survived by one brother, Fred Brannan of Nowata; by her son-in-law, Ronald Bloom of Bartlesville; by a grandson, Brent Bloom and his wife Aimee of Oklahoma City; by three great-granddaughters, Lily, Layla, and Lola Bloom of Oklahoma City; by a special niece Carol and her husband Dwight Sonnenberg; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Mrs. Hamil was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, and by a daughter, Eugenia Faye Bloom. Funeral services will be held at 10:00a.m., Friday, May 1, 2009 in the Benjamin Funeral Home Chapel in Nowata. Interment will follow in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home between the hours of 7 & 9p.m. on Thursday.
