Fredrick Smith

August 28, 1944 — February 24, 2009

Fredrick Keith Smith, sixty four year old Grove resident passed away at his home on February 24, 2009. Mr. Smith was born in Wichita, Kansas on August 28, 1944 to Garl and Gayle (McKisson) Smith. He grew up in Iola Kansas graduating from Iola High School in 1962. That summer he entered into the United States Marine Corp, after serving two tours in Vietnam, he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He then began his college education at Iola Junior college and his police career in 1977. After retirement he has been working with DCCSAN as an investigator. Fred enjoyed shooting guns and scuba diving; he was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, Elks, and Moose. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of the home Carol R (Miller) Smith, two sons; Glenn Smith and Ray Smith, three daughters Missy Curry, Shelly Parker and Amy Brewer Deason along with two sisters Eilleen Hillbrant and Phyllis Lampy, thirteen grandchildren, Lindsay Smith, Chad Smith, Jordan Smith, Ivey Smith, Mattheisen Smith, Austin Brom, Matt Korte, Haleigh Curry, Zachary Parker, Sarah Beth Parker, Emaleigh Parker, Zoe Parker and Amanda Deason and great grandchildren Joshua Coke, Lane Smith and Ava Lilly. Memorial Services will be on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 6:00 PM at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Grove. The United States Marine Corps will provide Military Honors. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to DCCSAN in Jay or to honorflight.org. Friends and family may send online condolences at www.honoringmemories.com.
