French Louis Johnson, age 87 of Topsy, died Monday, May 24, 2010 at his home. He was born in Kenwood, OK on June 20, 1922 the son of Alexander and Flara (Black) Johnson. In 1943 French joined the United States Army Artillery Battalion, serving three years. On March 30, 1944 he was united in marriage to Mary Martha Sloane. French did numerous things in his life including farm work, tiehacking, saw milling, and being a full gospel minister. He loved his family, loved to fish, and loved to talk and will be missed by many. Survivors include his son William C. Johnson and wife Sherry of Topsy, daughters Pat Rogers of Eucha, and Rena Jeffries of Grove, 7 grandchildren: Darren Johnson, William L. Johnson, Cheryl Ritter, Shelley King, Brent Mowery, and Clint Mowery, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and one sister Ethel Leach of Ketchum, as well as host of friends and other family members. French is preceded in death by his wife Mary Martha, daughter Barbara Willard, grandson French Dowdy, and siblings Jim Johnson, Ben Johnson, Buster Johnson, Grover Johnson, Maudie Fuller, and Lizzie Johnson. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Topsy Assembly of God with Rev. Loy "Tobe" Sperry, Rev. Gayle Miles, and Rev. Derrell Miles officiating. Interment will follow at Mose Ridge Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home.
