Garland Layton Lane, 69 year old, Topsy, Oklahoma resident passed away Saturday February 4, 2012, following an extended illness. Garland was born on August 18, 1942, in Pryor, Oklahoma to Frank and Hazel (Friend) Lane. Garland graduated from Northeastern State University with a Masters in School Administration and was a school administrator for many years, as well as a rancher. Garland married Sharon (Duffield) on January 4, 1964 in Jay Oklahoma. He served in the National Guard. Garland enjoyed gigging and fishing, reading, and hunting (both animals and mushrooms), he enjoyed working his cattle, checking them every day, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Garland was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Gordon Lane. Garland is survived by his wife Sharon, of the home, a son, Steve Lane and wife Annette, of Eucha, Oklahoma, daughters, Stacy Herndon and husband Bryan of Topsy, Oklahoma, and Shannon Smith and husband Dave, of Spavinaw, Oklahoma, sister Gail Sperry of Jay, Oklahoma, Sisters in law, Tommie Sue Marshall of Topsy, Oklahoma, Linda Carrigan and husband Kim of Welch, Oklahoma, and CherylBuckett Ward of Grove, Oklahoma, a brother in law, Dean Duffield of Topsy, Oklahoma, Garland is also survived by nine grandchildren, Spencer, Scout, and Slayter Brown, Brooks and Bodie Smith, and Sellor, Steen, Sullivan, and Sawyer Lane, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Garland will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the 1st Assembly of God Church in Jay, Oklahoma, Interment will be at Mose Ridge Cemetery. A visitation for Garland from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, Oklahoma.
