Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com. Gary Arthur Standeford, 82, of Nowata, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015, at Osage Nursing Center in Nowata. He was born in Coodys Bluff, Oklahoma to Fletcher Carl and Eunice (Scott) Standeford. He attended Armstrong School and when he was 16 years old he entered the National Guard. By the time he was 17 he was sent to Japan to serve during the occupation of Japan. When he turned 18 he was sent to the front line in Korea where he served in the Korean War for two years. Upon his discharge he had earned a Korean Service medal with a bronze star, Japan occupation medal, and United Nations Service medal. Gary returned to the Nowata area where he worked in the oil fields for several years. Gary helped to plug many oil wells prior to Oologah Lake being filled. He worked for Pierce Pipe and Supply where he eventually retired from. Preceding Mr. Standeford in death are his parents Fletcher and Eunice Standeford; brothers, Cleo, Kenneth, Donald, Russell, Everett, and Raymond Standeford; as well as a sister Ruby M. Morris, and an infant sister. Survivors include one sister Charlotte McLaughlin; a nephew Kenneth "Butch" Standeford; a niece Mary Ann Tallman; many other relatives and a host of friends.
