Gayle Ann Cherry, 96, of Nowata, Oklahoma passed away on June 29, 2011 at Parks Edge Nursing Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born to Henry and Anna (Reed) Wolf in Delaware, Oklahoma on December 11, 1914. Gayle graduated from Delaware High School where she lived in the area until she moved to San Francisco, CA. She lived there for about forty years before moving to the Grand Lake area for fifteen years and then made her home in Nowata. She made her living as a telephone operator. Gayle was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nowata and very active with the Senior Citizen's Center. She loved to paint appliqué's that she used to make quilts. In the nursing home, she painted baskets and birdhouses. One of Gayle's hobbies was reading. She loved for her yard to look nice and would sit on her front porch in her rocking chair. She also loved her many pets. Mrs. Cherry is survived by one son, Jerry M. Lester and wife Jana of Bartlett, Texas; two grandchildren, Ray Lester of Aixa-Provence, France, and Shannon Platz and husband Oliver of Malterdingen, Germany and two great grandchildren, Ellen and Andy Platz. Gayle is preceded by her parents, Henry and Anna Wolf; two children, James R. Lester and Mary Ann Glen; five sisters, Velma McGuffin, Uetta Wolf, Gladys Blankenship, Erma Suddarth, and Dorothy Trow, and two brothers, Harold Wolf and Howard Wolf. Funeral Services for Gayle will be Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Cheryl Newton officiating.
