Genny was born in Bartlesville on December 14, 1936, to Virgil Rector Shaw and Lola Mae (Marshall) Shaw where she was reared and received her education. After graduating from College High School, she married and moved away for several years, before returning to Bartlesville to be near her family. Genny then began her career with the State of Oklahoma; Vocational Rehabilitation Services, where she remained employed until her retirement. She was a long-time member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Bartlesville. Genny's life revolved around her family members, her beloved animals, her church, and her faith. She loved to cook, usually making things from scratch. She also enjoyed gardening, and had many plants. Genny had also been an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She is survived by her sons, Clayton Black, Brian Black and wife Melanie, and Steve Black and wife Robi; her grandchildren, T.J. Black and family, Ashley Thierry and family, Jennifer Black and family, and Brian Austin Black; a brother-in-law, Arthur Phillips; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; a host of friends; and her fellow church members. Genny was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Lucille Dahl and her husband, Oklahoma State Senator John Dahl, a sister Theresa Phillips, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
