Dewayne Tate, 59 of Nowata died at 10:10 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa. George Dewayne Tate was born on December 23, 1949 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to George Tate and Maxine (Cupp) Tate. Dewayne married Joleen Bennett on May 23, 1981 in Grapeland, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grapeland. Dewayne was an exceptional musician; he had a profound talent playing the guitar. He enjoyed fixing, tinkering, and working on classic cars. Dewayne loved his family; his children and his grandson were his greatest joy in life. He is survived by his wife Joleen Tate of Grapeland, TX., 2 children Cody Alan Tate of Grapeland, and JoBeth and her husband Jay Scott Douglas of Grapeland, a special "daughter" Kourtney Hamby, 1 grandson Cooper Tate Douglas, his mother Maxine Tate-Youtsey of Nowata, his father George Tate and wife Faye of Bartlesville, 1 Brother Mike Tate and his wife Becky of Alabaster, Alabama, 2 special brothers Mike Frank of Owasso, and Mike Davis of Bartlesville, 1 step-brother Bill Youtsey of Porter, 2 sisters Joy Breadfoe of Bartlesville, and Patty Hanson of California, 2 step-sisters Gay South of Wagner, and Ginger Smith of Tulsa, 2 special sisters Bonnie White of Shepherd, TX., and Jan Duhon of Elkhart, TX., Aunt Ruth Gibson of Bartlesville, numerous extended family members and a host of friends. Dewayne was preceded in death by his grandparents and half sister Georgia May Parker. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009 in the Benjamin Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Arlis Henager officiating. Final committal rites will be accorded Mr. Tate in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital ; 501 St. Jude Place ; Memphis TN 38105 in Dewayne's name.
