Georgia Jean Christian, 87 year-old Vinita resident, died early Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Rosewood Terrace in Vinita. She was born May 18, 1920 in Hartshorne, Oklahoma to James B. and Mina Clare (Simpson) Patterson. Georgia served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1945 as a Seaman First Class. She married Emmett Christian on January 28, 1946 in Wichita, Kansas, they lived in the Vinita area most of their lives. Georgia retired from Eastern State Hospital after 30 years, as the switchboard supervisor. She was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Vinita, where she had taught the adult ladies Sunday school class, and a member of the WMU. Georgia was preceded in death by her husband Emmett on November 1, 2002 and her twin sister, Mary Jane Couch in 2000. The family includes: her nieces and nephews, Jim Couch and wife Carol of Eufaula, Larry Couch and wife Kay, of Vinita, Priscilla Smith of Overton, Texas, Linda Chanley and husband Bill of Claremore and numerous other great-nieces and nephews. Casket bearers will be, Rod Couch, Bill Chanley, Kelly Smith, Jim Couch, Heath Couch and Dustin Couch. The funeral will be held in the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel, on Friday May 2, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Terry Wise officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita.
