Gertrude Hale, 89, of Grove, Oklahoma, died at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Grove Nursing Center in Grove, Oklahoma. Gertrude was born April 26, 1920 in Salem, Arkansas to James C. and Elizabeth (Mooney) Reeves. When she was only nine months old, the family moved to the Rock Creek Community south of Stuart, Oklahoma. She attended school at the Rock Creek School. On November 7, 1936, she married Louis C. Hale in Hughes County, Oklahoma. They made their home in Stuart, Oklahoma and moved to Moore, Oklahoma in 1958. Gertrude was an expert seamstress. She made beautiful quilts and crocheted elegant afghans. She was also an accomplished gardener, growing both vegetables and flowers. She moved to the Grove area in April of 2008. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Hale in June 1983, her parents, three brothers, and one sister. Survivors include her only child, Carolyn Lovelace and her husband Bill of Grove, OK; two grandchildren, Koni Fritz of Kansas City, Kansas and Bradley Overturf of Mena, Arkansas; two great-grandchildren, Chyenne Overturf and Andrew Overturf both of Mena; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service for Mrs. Hale will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Pryor Cemetery, Stuart, Oklahoma with Minister Kelley Benson officiating.
