Gladys Dawson-Keller, 87-year-old Nowata resident, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2008 at the Nowata Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2008 in the First Christian Church in Nowata with Pastor Robert Crawford and LaVern Draper officiating. Casket Bearers will be Robert Demaree, Larry Johnston, Bud Vaughan, Giles Vaughan, Lee Ray Shouse, and Gary Dawson. Honorary Bearers are J.R. Vaughan, Lee Vaughan, Bob Vaughan, and Jim Vaughan. Interment will follow in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home of Nowata. On-Line condolences can be left at www.honoringmemories.com. Gladys Effie Dawson-Keller was born July 23, 1917 in Atoka, Oklahoma to Creed L. Vaughan and Mary Uber-Vaughan. Gladys attended schools in Atoka and later graduated from Nowata High School. She married John T. Dawson and the two operated their own cattle ranch for several years. John passed away on February 16, 1991. Later, on October 19, 1992, Mrs. Dawson married Leslie D. Keller. He would also precede Mrs. Dawson-Keller in death after almost 10 years of marriage. Mrs. Keller worked at the First National Bank in Nowata for many years until her retirement. She was active in the Senior Citizens and a member of the First National Bowling Team. She loved traveling and spoke quite often of a trip she took to the Holy Land. Mrs. Keller loved playing cards and had several fond memories of family barbecues that she hosted on numerous occasions. Mrs. Keller is survived by one sister, Velma Hamil of Nowata; by one brother, Cecil Vaughan of Antlers, Oklahoma; and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her two husbands; by two sisters, Opal Shouse and Maude Johnston; and by three brothers, Howard R. Vaughan, Ray Vaughan, and Roy Vaughan.
