Gladys Lucille Fears, a longtime resident of Bartlesville from 1946 until 1996, passed away in Muskogee on Christmas day, a day that was always very special in her heart. She was 93 years young. Gladys was born on a farm near Boynton, Oklahoma, on November 5, 1913, to Lon and Ellen Brazil. Gladys was a gentle and sweet lady who displayed grace and dignity regardless of the challenges of life. She learned to play piano "by ear" in her church as a child, and was still playing for the "old folks" until age 91. She loved all forms of good music, but particularly enjoyed Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Benny Goodman, and other big band artists. She loved her family unconditionally, and greeted everyone with a warm and engaging smile, and was kind to every person she met. Mrs. Fears and her husband, Graden, moved to Bartlesville from Tulsa in December 1946 when he accepted a position in the engineering department of Phillips Petroleum Company where he worked on some of Phillip's major projects until his retirement in 1974. At the time of Gradens death in 1987, he and Gladys had been happily married for 57 years. Gladys and Graden were both licensed pilots and enjoyed flying together for many years. Mrs. Fears was employed for 20 years at Union National Bank, retiring in 1975.In 1992 she and George Logue were married in Bartlesville, where they continued their residence until his death in 1998. She cherished her many enduring friendships throughout the community, and during near 50 years in Bartlesville, she supported her children's school and sports activities, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. All three of her children were graduates of College High School. She is survived by her two daughters, Betty Govett of Tulsa, OK and Earlene Dow of Walnut Creek, CA, a son and daughter in law, John and Judy Fears of Norman, OK. Mrs. Fears lost an infant at birth, a boy in 1944, James Donald Fears, she is also survived by her elder sister, Pearl Chilcoat, 95, of Muskogee, eight grandchildren - Sherry Govett, Susan Barimore, Linda Vick, Steven and Jim Dow, Edward Govett, Major Chris Fears, U.S. Marine Corps and Brett Fears, many great grandchildren. Mrs. Fears in preceded in death by a son, James D. Fears, a granddaughter, Trish Bermudez, , a brother Houston Brazil and a sister Judy Jones. Mrs. Fears led a beautiful life, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services for Mrs. Fears will be Saturday December 30, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Neekamp - Luginbuel Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Cox officiating with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Neekamp -Luginbuel Funeral home.
