Goldie Juanita Coker, 94-year-old, Nowata resident, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Nowata Nursing Center. Goldie Juanita Coker was born August 30, 1915, in Pittsburgh, Kansas, to Frank Wells and Mary Etta (Burrows) Wells. She was raised and educated in Nowata and graduated from Nowata High School. Goldie attended Business College in Tulsa for two years. On June 29, 1935, Goldie was united in marriage to Woodrow W. (Jim) Coker. In 1973 Jim was transferred To Wyoming while working for Union Oil. They returned home in 1984 to spend the rest of their lives together. Jim preceded her in death on April 23, 2004. Goldie was of the Baptist faith and a member of a small church on Monkey Island at Grand Lake. She canned the vegetables grown in Jim's garden and loved to share them with neighbors. Her hobbies included arts and crafts, sewing, knitting and crochet. She will be dearly missed. Goldie is survived by her two children, Carl Coker of Nowata and Ronnie Coker and his wife Anita of Grand Junction, Co, seven grandchildren, Chad Coker of Arizona, Christa Barcale and her husband Billy of Portland, Oregon, Chase Coker of Flagstaff, Arizona, Debra Ann of Denver, Co, David Coker and his wife Bobbi of Denver, Co, Dana Villescas of Albuquerque, NM and Lori McGomery of Tacoma, Washington, and Twelve Great Grandchildren. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Coker will be held 10:00a.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2009 in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Ben Killion will officiate.
