Grace Barnard

Benjamin Funeral Service - Nowata, Oklahoma....................................................... Grace Barnard, 98, of Grove, Oklahoma and formerly of Nowata, died Thursday morning, January 21, 2016 at Grandwood Assisted Living Center in Grove. Grace was born September 28, 1917 at Muskogee, Oklahoma to William Thomas Ellis and Nora Maggie Mae (Outland) Ellis. She grew up in Muskogee and was a graduate of Muskogee High School. Grace moved to Kansas where she met her future husband, Herman H. Barnard. Herman and Grace were wed October 8, 1935 at Freeport, Kansas. The Barnards would move to Wichita, where they would reside, 42 years, until moving to Nowata in 1998. Herman preceded her in death on May 15, 1999. Grace then moved to Claremore, Oklahoma and then to Grove in 2009. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed crafts, especially crocheting. Grace was an avid Nowata Ironman Football fan. She was of the Presbyterian faith. Grace is survived by her daughter, Delores Barnard Roberts of Grove, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Greg Roberts of Nowata and Sherrie Cox and her husband, Richie of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Herman, by a son-in-law, Willie Roberts and by five sisters. The family asks that those who wish, donate to their favorite charity in memory of Grace.
