Harold Gottsponer

Harold N. Gottsponer, age 73 and long time resident of Vinita, Ok, was born in Perry Arkansas on February 9, 1937 to Albert A. and Josephine F. (Nagel) Gottsponer. Harold was born with Cerebral Palsy and lived with his parents most of his life. Even though CP affected all of his body, including his speech, Harold's strong will and determination as well as that of his family's helped him to conquer many obstacles. Harold attended Saint Elizabeth's school in Perry Ark, public school in Lakin, Kansas, and Sacred Heart Academy in Vinita, Ok. He worked with his dad for many years doing what he could to help with the operation of the family farm and ranch. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, checkers, dominoes, and putting together large scenic puzzles. He enjoyed being with people and especially liked large family gatherings. In 1997, Harold fell while at home. The fall caused damage to the spinal cord in his neck. After rehab it was necessary for him to have around the clock care. At that time he became a resident of Rosewood Terrace where, over the past 13, he has made many friends. He was able to operate a motorized wheelchair and was soon dubbed "Hot Rod" for his antics. Harold was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Josephine Gottsponer and one sister, Rita Hoyt. He is survived by one brother, Edward Gottsponer and wife Doris of Vinita, Ok; one sister, Anna Greenwalt and husband Richard of Tulsa, Ok; and many nieces and nephews. Harold was loved by all who met him. Everyone was captivated by his happy spirit, friendly smile and contagious laughter. He will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he touched. A Rosary service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday October 12, 2010 at Luginbuel Funeral Home. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m.Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Father Alex Kennedy officiating. Services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home.
