Harold Eugene Watt Jr., a native of Dewey, Oklahoma, better known as “JR”, passed from this world on August 20, 2024, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. JR was born on September 25, 1939, in Dewey, Oklahoma. He was the son of Harold E. “Soupy” Watt and Ruth Edith (Marlow) Watt. He was reared and received his education in Dewey, graduating with the Senior Class of 1958.
JR began employment with Hoyt Oil Company and remained until 1966 when he was employed by Farmers Cooperative “COOP”. He and Paula K. Martin were married in 1958 and made their home in Dewey. They moved to Winfield, Kansas in 1966, and he continued his employment there. In 1973, JR began working as a Millwright and worked in several mid-western states until 1977. On December 16, 1977, he was employed by H.C. Price Company as a welder/inspector in pipeline construction and worked offshore in Scotland, Louisiana, and in the Mexico State of Vera Cruz.
In November of 1980, he rejoined Cooperative Refining in Bartlesville as a mechanic. JR and Janie A. (Merida) Corn were married on December 11, 1981. They made their home near Hulah Lake in the Oak Ridge Addition. Janie was an associate of Arnold Moore Funeral Service. On October 31, 2001, he was retired as Pipeline Superintendent of Farmland Industries.
A member of Rose Hill Community Baptist Church, Dewey Masonic Lodge #466 A.F. & A.M., Adkar Shrine Club, Scottish Rite Valley of Tulsa, Chapter 55, Royal Arch Masons, Council 41, Cryptic Masons and Calvary Commandery 26, Knights Templar, past president of Wasono Shrine Club, and American RifflemansAssociation. JR enjoyed hunting deer and quail, was an avid fisherman, and had a love for birddogs.
Survivors include his wife: Janie of the home; their children: Martin M. “Marty” Watt and wife, Mary of Winfield, KS, Kimberly K. Hudspeth, M.D. and husband, John of Venice, FL, Beau B. Watt and Jim Creed of Bartlesville, OK, Connie Mendell and husband, Paul of Vinita, OK, and Mark Corn and wife, Donna of Bartlesville, OK; his grandchildren: Matthew M. Watt of Turku, Finland, Patrick P. Watt and wife, Kat of Lawrence, KS, Lillie K. Moore of Overland Park, KS, John P. Moore of Overland Park, KS, Thomas M. Moore of Kansas City, MO, Samuel A. Moore of San Fransisco, CA, Ryan K. Perez and husband, Si of Kayala, FL, Phillip Mendell and wife, Hannah of Welch, OK, Baylee Metcalf and husband, Braden of Welch, OK, Amber Coffman and husband, Matt of Keezle Town, VA, Madison Taylor and husband, Zak of Bartlesville, OK, and Taelure Cox and husband, Donald of Bartlesville, OK; his 12 great-grandchildren; his brother: Larry D. Watt and wife, Carolyn of Copan, OK; along with several nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Harold and Ruth Watt and his brothers: Joe D. Watt and Marlow M. Watt.
Casket bearers include John Hudspeth, John P. Moore II, Samuel A. Moore, Patrick P. Watt, Phillip L. Mendell, and Thomas M. Moore.
A visitation with the family will take place on Thursday, August 22, 6:00-8:00 pm at Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home & Cremation Service at 710 S. Dewey Avenue, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The funeral service will be held at Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Casey Parham officiating. Interment will follow at the Dewey City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in JR’s name to the Akdar Shrine Center, at 2808 S. Sheridan Road Tulsa, OK 74129.
